English layman's summary:
This editorial synthesizes four contributions on responsible and robust evaluation for recommender and search systems. Together, they show that meaningful evaluation should go beyond aggregate metrics by considering realistic conditions, temporal and domain changes, subgroup differences, human validation, and effects on multiple stakeholders. They also highlight the need to adapt evaluation criteria to context, examine errors and trade-offs, and use evaluation to inform system design, deployment, and the prioritization of objectives.
