The principal investigator at IIT and Prodetel have been collaborating for over ten years on the design, manufacturing, and testing of parabolic antenna feeds. Initially, they replaced commercial dipole-based designs with printed microstrip patch antennas, achieving dual-frequency feeds for the S and C bands with optimal characteristics for their application. PRODETEL has been installing prototypes of these designs over the years, which have performed well for the required applications.
Currently, there is a need to extend the operation of the feeds to an additional band (L band). It is worth noting that there are no commercial alternatives covering all these bands, or, if they exist, they are bulky and expensive. In this context, a new collaboration has emerged to develop an integrated feed design that maintains the performance of the S and C band feeds while adding L band functionality.
Layman's summary: IIT and Prodetel develop compact and efficient antenna feeds for S, C, and now L bands, improving on commercial designs. After a decade of collaboration, they aim to integrate the new band into a single, cost-effective and small-sized device.
