April 1997 - September 1998

Funding entity Iberdrola I+D

Computations on the remaining life of shafts of coal grinding machines in power generation stations. Starting form the irregular history of loads in critical sections of the shafts, and using advanced concepts of the Finite Element Method and of Fracture Mechanics, a new cohesive element is developed, to simulate the presence and growth of crack(s) in the continuum. After this simulation, is possible to estimate the remaining life of the part after an existing crack(s) detected by non-destructive evaluation.
