The aim of the analysis of power system incidents is to assess the protection system behavior, correct or incorrect, for the faults that have happened in the power network.
If a failure is detected in the power system protection system, this failure has to be classified: breaker or relay failure. In case of a relay failure it has to be further analyzed in order to establish if the fault has been a general failure or if it has been a partial failure.
The information provided is used by the maintenance people to solve the problems that have caused the misbehavior or the network protection system.
