This project has provided a cualitative analysis of the contribution of the coal fired power plants to the security of the Spanish power system. A power plant has a contribution to the security of the power system if its generation prevents power system constraints. The contribution of the coal fired power plants depend on the either exporting or importing area where the plant is located. The present situation is changing due to the construction of a number of combined cycle power plants.
