MORSE is a complete but simplified model of the Spanish electricity industrial sector, which has being developed by the Instituto de Investigación Tecnologica (IIT) in collaboration with Endesa. It is intended for strategic analysis of the evolution of this sector, especially when changes of the utilities structure, new regulations, or new generation technologies take place. Its core is EQUITEC, a market Nash equilibrium model, where the generation has been represented at the technology level, instead of considering generation units individually, which includes an algorithm for agents conjectures computation based on linear bid curves and robustness against demand. MORSE also has tools for histograms computations based on Montecarlo, for objectives optimisation based on genetic algorithms, and for the optimal determination of the technologies and of the demand load levels of the market model. This new collaboration focuses on advanced aspects, such as the incorporation of network constraints to EQUITEC, the detailed analysis and improvements of the conjecture algorithm determination, the development of a very simple model obtained from scenarios computed with MORSE, or the incorporation of linguistic objective functions based on fuzzy sets a the establishment of more realistic objectives to be used in combination with the genetic algorithm.
