The objective of this project is to develop a study on Smart Grids. This study will be published by the Fundacion Gas Natural as a volume within its collection Technical Guides on Energy and Environment. The structure by chapters is: 1. The Spanish electric system and its limitations, 2. What are smart grids?, 3. Distributed generation, demand side management, and smart grids, 4. The transport electrification and its impact on electricity grids, 5. The system operation and renewable integration, 6. Security and efficiency in the grid, 7. Economic and regulatory issues, and 8. A vision of the future.
