The project aims to study the seismic behavior of the structure of an electric switch of 72.5 kw. The device is basically constituted by a base steel structure and the switching elements: ceramic insulating materials and other metallic materials. The actions on the structure take into account the simultaneous existence of acceleration fields not only in a horizontal direction but also in a vertical one. The definition of the response spectrum of accelerations, as well as the comparison of tensions criteria, have been carried out according to Chilean codes. A finite element model has been developed with the most important dynamic characteristics of the structure and a modal spectrum analysis is used to calculate the structure response.
