Reduction of voltage drops in the catenary of high speed railways with kinetic energy storage systems

L. Rouco E. Pilo

March 2004 - May 2004

Funding entity CEDEX

Cedex is developing for GIF a kinetic energy storage system aimed at high speed railway lines. The benefits of kinetic energy storage systems are: (1) reduction of unbalances in the three phase power network, (2) reduction of voltage drops in the catenary and (3) reduction of the overall installation costs. This study determines the reduction of voltage drops in the catenary. One of the issues to be addressed is the most adequate location of the device in the electrication.
