Luis Rouco obtained the “Ingeniero Industrial” and “Doctor Ingeniero Industrial” degrees from the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1985 and 1990 respectively. He is Full Professor of Electrical Engineering in the School of Engineering of Universidad Pontificia Comillas. He has served as Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering from 1999 through 2005. He teaches at undergraduate level a course on Electrical Machines and at graduate level courses on Power System Analysis and Power System Stability and Control. He has been Director of the Course on Power System Operation jointly developed with Red Eléctrica de España in the period 2004-2007 and Director of the Master on Electrical Tecnhnology jointly developed with Endesa in the period 2007-2011. Profesor Rouco develops his research activities at Instituto de Investigación Tecnológica (IIT). He has supervised a number of research projects for Spanish public administrations, Spanish electric utilities , such as Endesa, Gas Natural, Iberdrola, Red Eléctrica de España, Unión Fenosa and Viesgo, and other Spanish engineering and industrial companies such as ABB, AEG Ibérica de Electricidad, Ardanuy Ingeniería, Babcock & Wilcox Española, Duro Felguera, Eliop, Empresarios Agrupados, Indra, Initec Energía, Izar, SEMI, Sener and Técnicas Reunidas. He has also research projects for foreign companies and institutions such as Alstom Switzerland, CAMMESA y Universidad de La Plata (Argentina), Edison Spa (Italia), Electricité de France, RTE-France and INESC-Porto (Portugal). Professor Rouco areas of expertise are modelling, analysis, simulation and control of the steady-state, dynamic and transient behaviour of electric power systems. Professor Rouco has written many papers in international journals and conferences. Profesor Rouco is member of Cigré and IEEE, President of the Spanish Chapter of IEEE Power Engineering Society del IEEE and Member of the Executive Committee of the Spanish National Committee of CIGRE. He has been visiting scientist at Ontario Hydro (Toronto, Canada), MIT (Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA) y ABB Power Systems (Vasteras, Sweden).
