Biography:

I am a biologist (MSc.) from Leiden University (Netherlands), registered with the College of Biologists of the Community of Madrid, specializing in ecology. I hold a PhD in Society and Culture (with honors), awarded for best doctoral thesis by the University of Barcelona.

I also specialize in the Management of Protected Natural Areas, having completed postgraduate studies at the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Complutense University of Madrid, and the University of Alcalá, all in Madrid. Additionally, I hold a master’s degree in environmental engineering and management from the School of Industrial Organization (EOI), also in Madrid.

Since 2008, I have been an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at ICAI / Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid. I participate in the research group "Emerging Contaminants and Resource Valorization" and am a member of the EUPeace network – "European University for Peace, Justice and Inclusive Societies" – where I collaborate with the research groups "Climate Science and Just Transition" and "Inclusive Health and Wellbeing."

My research interests focus on the environmental quality of wetlands, rural development in cultural landscapes, rural industrial heritage, sustainable food production, and social life cycle analysis, with participation in competitive scientific projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation.

I also work as a reviewer for scientific journals and as an evaluator for international funding bodies for research projects related to biodiversity and society.

As a lecturer, I teach over 30 ECTS courses annually and have co-supervised more than fifty undergraduate and master's theses, as well as one doctoral dissertation.

I belong to several scientific societies focused on natural, geological, and industrial heritage, and I serve on the board of directors of some of them (marked with an asterisk): International Society for Salt Lake Research*, International Association for Landscape Ecology – Spain*, TICCIH – Spain*, Society for the Defense of Geological and Mining Heritage, and Association for Heritage Interpretation.

In addition to ICAI, I regularly teach master's and postgraduate courses at Rey Juan Carlos University, the University of Extremadura, and occasionally at other institutions.

Outside of academia, I have over 25 years of experience as a consultant in the conservation of cultural landscapes and wetlands, protected area planning, rural development, enhancement of geological and industrial heritage, and outdoor education. My clients in Spain, the rest of Europe, Asia, and Latin America include IUCN, UNESCO, ICOMOS, WWF, BirdLife, as well as national, regional, and local public administrations, foundations, associations, and companies.
