Biography:

Javier Calzada Funes is a chemical engineer and holds a PhD from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), where he specialized in Biochemical Engineering, in addition to a degree in Food Science and Technology from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He complements his multidisciplinary background with a Master’s degree in Humanities and a Master’s degree in Education and ICT, the latter with a specialisation in technopedagogical design. He began his teaching career at the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of UCM and at the Faculty of Experimental Sciences of the Francisco de Vitoria University, later teaching subjects in Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Gastronomy and Engineering, both in national and international programmes.

His research work has focused on biodesulphurisation, bioprocesses, fermentation technology and the development of nanocatalysts aimed at controlling tumour growth, with experience in institutions such as UCM, the University of Zaragoza and Comillas Pontifical University. He is currently collaborating with the Research Group on Emerging Contaminants and Resource Recovery at the ICAI School of Engineering and shares his teaching activity between MACC and ICAI.

He has numerous scientific publications, two officially recognised research periods, and extensive participation in national, European and educational innovation projects.
