The transport sector is essential to reducing poverty, building prosperity and is a key driver for economic growth. Currently, this sector is the largest final energy consumer. Turning this sector into a more energy efficient and sustainable one reducing its carbon footprint is a challenging task.

IIT actively carries out research in railway systems, currently undergoing a remarkable expansion y technological reform. IIT contributes to the development of models and advanced tailor-made applications for the optimal traffic planning and operation, energy efficiency and other aspects related to the design of railway infrastructure.

Further, IIT is very actively doing research in electric vehicles and their impact in the operation and planning of distribution and transport systems, the provision of reserve and load shifting and peak shaving services, the reduction of renewable spillage, etc.

Finally, IIT researches in and develops policies to increase the transport sector’s sustainability.
