The objective of Industry 4.0 is to achieve greater adaptability to the needs of future production processes,
a more efficient allocation of resources, and the design of advanced materials. Within the IIT, the research
in Industry 4.0 is structured in three thematic areas:
- Mechanical systems and advanced materials group, dedicated to the design of mechanical
parts and computer simulation, including fundamental physics, electromagnetism, and wind analysis among
others. This working group also provides research in the use of advanced materials for industrial and
biomedical applications.
- Intelligent Systems and bigdata group, aimed at analyzing information for monitoring,
diagnosis, reliability and maintenance of industrial processes, and modeling and prediction of
industrial and economic systems.
- ICT and advanced control group, focused on the development of electronic
instrumentation and microprocessors, power electronics, control engineering applications, signal
analysis, electronic design automation and digital communications.
