Assessment of integrated (grid and off-grid) electrification business models, policy and regulation for universal access to electricity

Since in most developing countries the existing distribution paradigm is not working, and electrification is making insufficient progress, both in volume and in quality of service, it seems necessary to search for some kind of new business model approach can be well adapted to the objective of universal access in the developing country context and rural electrification in particular, involving the use of different technologies and delivery modes (grid extension, mini-grids and standalone systems). Such a business model must comply with several requirements that are indispensable to scale up and accelerate, attract the necessary investments, and engage all the incumbent stakeholders in the long term, for any universal electrification approach to succeed. The selected candidate will join to a team of researchers. The responsibilities of the position include the following studies:

It offers: Annual full-time contract for the development of projects. In addition, training activities may be carried out. This modality allows the researcher in training to establish a very close professional relationship with the companies with which he collaborates. There will be the possibility of accessing a pre-doctoral contract. In that case, the researcher in training is hired each year for a maximum total period of six years. The gross salary of the first year is € 24,410.00. Additionally, the IIT covers 90% of the rates of the training activities and will have access to all the services offered by the University (Sports, Cultural Activities, Library, etc.).

Requirements: Master degree in the field of power industry and regulation, or equivalent. Good knowledge and strong motivation in electrification for developing countries. Knowledge in scripting with Matlab and advanced Excel are welcome. Excellent spoken and written English.
