Biography:

Pablo Frías is a senior associate professor at the Electrical Engineering Department and researcher at the Institute for Research in Technology (IIT), both at the Engineering School ICAI of Universidad Pontificia Comillas. He received Industrial Engineering and Ph.D. degrees in 2001 and 2008, respectively. Since 2018 he serves as Vice-Dean for Economic and Institutional Affairs at the ICAI Engineering School. In 2001 he joined IIT, where during 2009-2016 he was head of the "Smart and Sustainable Grids" Research Group, and from March 2016 to September 2018 was appointed as Deputy Director of the IIT. He has a large experience working and coordinating applied research projects in the area of renewable generation and smart grids at the international level. Currently, he is director of the Observatory of Electric Vehicles and Sustainable Mobility in Comillas University, and coordinator of Annex 8 at the International Smart Grid Action Network (ISGAN). He has been visiting researcher at Imperial College in UK and INESC in Portugal. His research interests are the integration of renewable generation in electrical systems, the penetration of distributed resources in electricity networks (distributed generation, load management, storage systems, and electric vehicles), and the advanced design of electrical machines. Since 2004 he has been a lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering ICAI, and Head of the Electric Machines and Drives Lab. in the period 2013-2019. He is also responsible for different courses (Electric Machines, The Challenges of Future Electricity Systems and ICT & BigData in Power Systems) and was coordinator of two post-graduate programs (Control Specialist Power Systems, Masters in Electricity Generation). He has the accreditations of two six-year research in Engineering and Architecture, as well as the ACAP National Certification of PhD assistant professor.
