The Institute for Research in Technology (IIT) is a university institute of Universidad Pontificia Comillas integrated in the ICAI School of Engineering. Our goal is to research real-world problems with social impact while training highly qualified new professionals.

Researching for society since 1984
IIT was created on March 6, 1984. Its initial core came from the energy group of the Institute of Technology for Postgraduates, a project born in 1974 to bring the American postgraduate academic-business collaboration model to Spain.
Ignacio Pérez Arriaga, an ICAI engineer trained at MIT, proposed creating an independent institute in February 1984. The university embraced the idea immediately. The first project addressed electricity pricing methods for Unión Fenosa, laying the foundations for the Spanish regulatory framework of 1987.
Today IIT has completed over 3,000 projects, trained more than 435 researchers and published over 2,835 papers, establishing itself as a reference in applied technology research.
