Graphene and its derivatives have been extensively explored in various fields and have shown great promise for energy harvesting, environmental protection, and healthcare. 3D graphene-containing structures are especially endowed with useable features relating to physicochemical properties within hierarchical architectures. Therefore, 3D graphene-containing structures are increasingly being applied to biomedical engineering because of their ability to support human cell growth, improved antimicrobial activity, and be functionalized. Additionally, graphene can augment the mechanical properties of biomaterials without compromising biocompatibility. Within the field of biomedical engineering, the application of additive manufacturing technology has also generated significant interest as it allows the opportunity to fabricate 3D structures in any desired hierarchical structure while preserving the multifunctional properties of the printed materials. Combining graphene with additive manufacturing offers considerable potential for biomedical engineering applications, e.g., drug and/or gene delivery systems, bioimaging and biosensing, as well as tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. This chapter focuses on recent progress in biomedical engineering utilizing 3D graphene-containing structures, providing insights into fabrication, application, and constraints in clinical translation.
