Manuel Valdano es doctor en Modelado de Sistemas de Ingeniería por la Universidad Pontificia Comillas e ingeniero mecánico. Desde 2025, ocupa el puesto de profesor ayudante doctor en la asignatura de Resistencia de Materiales.

Desde 2020, participa en proyectos de investigación de la universidad y del laboratorio MOBIOS, donde desarrolla estudios experimentales y trabajos de modelado numérico mediante simulaciones de elementos finitos y modelos multicuerpo.

Su actividad de investigación se centra en la biomecánica del impacto.
