Electricity market modelling

The electric power system is evolving driven by decarbonisation, digitalisation, and decentralisation. Novel market models are of interest to engage customers in providing network operation support cost-efficiently. The thesis concerns formulating and developing innovative market models for the electricity sector. The aim is to focus on local markets, addressing the quantitative analysis of flexibility market functioning by modelling and simulating different market designs and scenarios to study the impact of different product parameters and the interactions with upstream markets. The quantitative assessment of market functioning in realistic scenarios is fundamental for formulating recommendations to foster the ongoing energy transition and innovate the electricity sector.
