Caravaca II: Islands with energy storage: Synchronization and Inrush Current

Inrush currents appear when re-connecting and energizing feeders. One strategy consists in lowering voltages before energizing feeders. The objective of the project is to determine the size of the grid that can be energized once with a battery storage system. First, a state of the art will be elaborated by reviewing scientific publications about the inrush phenomenon and the control of grid forming power inverters. Next, a way to estimate the inrush current will be proposed and will be theoretically applied to the calculation of real scenarios provided by Iberdrola. A simulation model will be developed as the previous step to real testing on site at the Caravaca facility.
