Multi-energy carrier dispatch of island power systems

Currently, electrical generation resources of island power systems are committed and dispatched according to the electrical demand and with respect to certain technical constraints. Water availability of island system is becoming a concern. Desalination plants require electrical energy to work. Sweet water production and storage must cover sweet water demand. The objective of this project is to include into the dispatch formulation restrictions with regard to water production and demand (the so-called water-energy nexus). Water demand profiles will be considered as input as well as technical constraints of the desalination plants. The impact of solving the problem sequentially or through the proposed integrated approach will be studied.
