Designing of a model for district heating network operation

The transition towards a more sustainable energy system is bringing more attention to new players in the energy market. In this context, district heating networks (DHN) are gaining more attention, since they could represent an important source of flexibility, especially integrating thermal energy storage devices and power-to-heat converters to interconnect the electricity network with the DHN. The student will be in charge of, first, studying the DHNs currently operating in Europe from both a technical and a market perspective, to gain insights into the operation of these networks. Following, the student will make a model for the operation of the DHN considering the technical constraints and the electricity tariff.
