An analysis of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) using real-world crash data and FEM simulations

The frequency, mechanisms and factors leading to traumatic brain injury (TBI) in motor vehicle crashes will be studied. Real-world crash databases will be prepared to analyze collision parameters and injuries sustained by occupants. The most common brain injuries and brain injury mechanisms in the data will be compared to current brain injury predictors in the field of passive safety. Finite element model (FEM) simulations will be performed, and the results compared to those from the crash data.
