In a context where the design of the balancing mechanisms in France is being appraised, the main objective pursued with this document is to contribute to the current discussion on the most adequate design of the French balancing mechanism. After analyzing the present regulations that rule the generation programming and the balancing mechanism not only in France, but also in its neighboring systems, the ultimate objective of this work is to develop some proposals intended to improve the French balancing market scheme, in order to achieve a more flexible, transparent and competitive functioning, which should lead to a more efficient and cheap service, obviously taking the inalienable respect for the system security as a cornerstone.
