Summary:
A new Voltage Sag Generator (VSG) to test synchronous generators Fault Ride Through (FRT) capability as required by grid codes is proposed. This VSG consists of an electronically controlled tap changer transformer that takes into account the technological constraints of synchronous generators. A 10 kVA prototype has been assembled and tested. It has been demonstrated that this VSG reproduces faithfully the interactions between the generator and the grid during voltage sags.
