This work has undertaken a comprehensive review of the state-of-the-art of the analysis of power system transient stability by direct methods. This review pays special attention to the methods and tools that have been used in industrial environments. The review details the capabilities and limitations of the proposed methods. In addition, the current research directions are detailed.
