L. Rouco F.M. Echavarren P. García-González

May 2006 - April 2007

Funding entity Endesa Distribución

The aim of this project is the review of the ground fault protection in the transmission and distribution networks of the power system of the Canary Islands. The study on ground protection of transmission lines will comprise: (1) a theoretical study on the neutral connection, (2) the construction and validation of the model to compute the ground fault currents on the Lanzarote-Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Palma systems y (3) the development of recommendations of settings of the ground fault protections with applications to 66 kV lines in Lanzarote-Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and 220 kV lines in Gran Canaria and Tenerife. The study on ground protection of distribution lines will comprise:
(1) a theoretical study on the neutral connection, (2) the construction and validation of the model to compute the ground fault currents with application to the lines of a substation selected by Endesa, (3) the development of recommendations of settings of the ground fault protections to the lines of a substation selected by Endesa and (4) a proposal of a pilot experience.
