Benchmarking of electricity transmission tariffs in the European Union

I.J. Pérez-Arriaga F. Perán F. Rubio-Odériz

September 2000 - December 2000

Funding entity Comisión Europea

The transmission tariff system is one of the key issues in the current implementation of the Internal Electricity Market (IEM) of the EU. Mindful of this, the European Commission is leading the way to achieve a workable and efficient IEM. The Florence process is a case in point. As a result of this process, a basic consensus concerning the methodology to be used in cross-border tariffs has been achieved. Successful implementation of this methodology must be supported by various complementary tasks (harmonization of national charges, etc.), which requires a thorough analysis of the different tariffs within the Member States, since they vary considerably. This project analyses these tariffs in order to provide recommendations concerning the future implementation of the Florence process.
