This project has reviewed the application of a SMES for control of electric power systems. The design of the various control loops and the closed-loop performance is currently being investigated. Simple models for the SMES are being used. These are being validated against more detailed simulation carried out at Red Eléctrica and will also be validated against the results using a prototype being built within the AMAS-500 consortium. This project has also developed models for the controlled SMES to be used in more-general-purpose computer programs.
