Funding entity Endesa

The core of the project is the analysis of the decision making of operation and planning in electricity systems under market rules in a context of massive deployment of renewable generation technologies. In general terms, the study is structured in two consecutive phases:
• Firstly, the objective is to analyze how the future efficiency of electricity markets will be in the current regulatory context, both in European and American systems. Potential impacts on the operation of renewable penetration (eg influence of increasing cycling needs of thermal plants) are studied and how these can affect to the processes of price formation.
• On these bases, new designs and regulatory adjustments for market mechanisms are evaluated and proposed to improve, if necessary, the overall efficiency of future systems, with special emphasis on the Iberian Electricity Market (Spain and Portugal)
