Analysis of the impact of the industrial decarbonisation in final prices for consumers: the case of thermal insulation

This master's thesis aims to analyse the impact of industrial decarbonisation in final prices for the consumer throught the case study of thermal insulation. As negative environmental externalities are being internalised in the cost structure of emission-intensive industries, it is to be seen how this will affect prices for final consumers. This master's thesis will focus on thermal insulation as a nexus between industry decarbonisation - through the production of thermal insulation materials - and the energy transition of the residential sector - where better thermal insulation is being put forward as a key measure for energy efficiency. The objective would be to develop a holistic metric to compare the techno-economic performance of various thermal insulation materials by taking into account their upstream industrial emissions and the final energy savings in the residential sector, in a scenario of transition towards climate neutrality by 2050.
