Blockchain-based carbon credit solution

Carbon credits and carbon markets have been proposed as a possible solution for climate change as they allow to properly include the environmental impact on the cost of economic activities. On the other hand, Blockchain, the technology that supports Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, allows keeping decentralized, auditable and immutable records for any kind of digital transactions. Given these attributes and features, Blockchain could be a perfect fit to structure carbon credits markets, and this will be the objective of this Master thesis: The student will study different carbon credit markets and identify current limitations for mass adoption. The thesis will also analyze the state-of-the-art of blockchain solutions for climate change and develop a blueprint and proof-of-concept for a blockchain-based carbon credit marketplace.
