So far, because of its renewable characteristics, the electricity production from windfarms has been treated in the Spanish Regulation as a «Special Regime Production». Under this regime, windfarms have enjoyed advantages related with itheir operation and remuneration. They were allowed to generate and inject into the network all their production, at a fixed price well above the wholesale market (following the economic principle of avoided costs).
However windfarms are reaching a high level of technical and economical madurity (that explains their impressive growth) which may lead them to progressively be treated as other production technologies in the market.
This project analyses the expected results of windfarms selling their energy in the spanish electricity market and explores strategies for bidding in the markets. A simulation tool has been developed in order to reproduce the wind production in the market and optimization techniques have been adapted to look after the optimal strategy.
