Control system for the NIRSpec of the James Space Telescope

A. García-Cerrada R.R. Pecharromán

January 2006 - June 2006

Funding entity CRISA

IIT.Comillas will design the current-control algorithm for the stepper motors used for the re-focusing mechanism assembly (RMA), the filter-wheel assembly (FWA) and grating wheel assembly (GWA) which are parts of the «Near Infra-Red spectrometer» of the James Webb Space Telescope. This telescope is called to substitute the Hubble telescope and it is being designed jointly by NASA and ESA. In this project, IIT.Comillas collaborates with CRISA who is responsible for the Instrument Control Electronics (ICE), which includes the command system of the above motors. IIT.Comillas will also give technical support for the control-electronics and algorithm implementation. Finally, IIT.Comillas will participate in the validation tests of the designed algorithms.
