Initial proyect of Cardboard Box Wastage Evaluation

P. Sánchez A. Ramos R.R. Pecharromán

April 2005 - July 2005

Funding entity Microlan S.A.

This proyect carries out two kind of activities to deal with Cardboard Box Wastage Evaluation & Reduction at the Microlan company. Additionally, main wastage sources are going to be detected and analyzed. The two kind of activities are: Technical Wastage Analysis (TWA) and Economic Wastage Analysis (EWA)

To start with TWA is necessary to evaluate the available wastage information on data bases and also not electronically storaged

From the technical point of view different types of cardboard box wastages are going to be classified based on their sources for each type of machine or process. Historical data is going to be used to set wastage percentages per machine. TWA is going to evaluate the easiness of wastage decrease depending of its type and machine.

Also TWA will set wastage percentage depending of each type of product because of its manufacturing process has an effect on its wastage. Special emphasis will be done on machines or processes which are the main sources of cardboard wastage.

To deal with EWA, an Added Value Analysis will be performed along the cardboard box manufacturing process. From the cost point of view at each process, primary material cost, labour cost, energy cost and others are going to be taken into account.

EWA allows to estimate the economic savings of a cardboard wastage reduction. This proyect is the initial study to provide a new frame to set measures to decrease cardboard wastage using economic incentives and technical changes on the manufacturing process.
